About
Artemisia is a large, diverse genus of small herbs and shrubs with between 200 and 400 species belonging to the Asteraceae family. Owing to the wide spectrum of pharmacological activities of its secondary metabolites, Artemisia has been used in traditional medicine since ancient times as an anthelmintic, antispasmodic, antirheumatic and antibacterial agent, and for the treatment of malaria, hepatitis, cancer, inflammation and menstrual disorders. Its extracts have also shown promising antiviral activity against COVID-19.
ArtemisiaDB was created to help accelerate drug discovery, as an additional resource for high-throughput virtual screening campaigns. Each record links a compound to the Artemisia species it was reported from, with the literature reference.
